Wrexham's summer business has begun after they beat off plenty of competition to land Will Boyle from Huddersfield.

The Welsh outfit won a titanic title battle to secure promotion from the National League and their wealthy owners have made them among the favourites for promotion. Wrexham already had a stellar squad given they were in the fifth tear with Paul Mullin their leading light.

It made adding more quality a tough task for Phil Parkinson, something he was happy to admit. He told The Leader: "We have spoken to a lot of players and we are in discussions with clubs. Like I keep saying, we have got a good squad and to get better players than the ones we have already got is really tough. If two or three players become available which we want and which we feel will really improve the squad, then of course we will go all out to get them."

The League Two new boys have now managed to land a notable name as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney begin to splash the cash on a centre-half who had been playing in the Championship.

Who is Will Boyle?

The centre-half has seen his career go full circle, beginning at the Terriers before a host of loans led to a permanent move away. Impressive performances though made Huddersfield bring him back to Yorkshire and he's just helped them remain in the Championship.

Last term Boyle made 18 appearances in all competitions, but it is his experience in the fourth tier that perhaps proved most attractive. Back in 2021 he won the title with Cheltenham, with his individual efforts earning him a spot in the EFL Team of the Year.

The 27-year-old had cut his teeth in loan spells at the likes of Kidderminster, Macclesfield and Kilmarnock. He made a permanent switch to Whaddon Road in January 2017, where he remained a regular, even after their promotion to League One.

Whilst at Cheltenham Boyle formed an impressive partnership with Ben Tozer, now the Wrexham captain, caused a plethora of problems for their opponents. The long Tozer throw-ins were often complimented by a Boyle flick-on, which even saw Manchester City come unstuck in the FA Cup.

Despite only getting limited minutes at Huddersfield Neil Warnock was full of praise for the new Wrexham signing: “Will is a fantastic boy and an Academy graduate, and has been fantastic around the building since my return to the Club. Wanting to increase his playing time, Boyley has a fantastic opportunity with Wrexham and I wish him all the best with his new side.”

Parkinson said on Boyle's arrival: “Will is a strong addition to the squad. He’s had success in this division before and then played in League One and had a taste off the Championship last season, too.”
