National League champions Wrexham have made their first big statement of intent in the summer transfer window.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney saw their club secure a return to the fourth tier for the first time since being relegated in 2007/08 last season and the duo have no intention of resting on their laurels, pledging further investment at the side look to mount a League Two promotion challenge.

And that has begun already, with the announcement of the signing of defender Will Boyle from Championship side Huddersfield Town. The left-sided centre-back, 27, has signed a three-year deal and will join his new teammates ahead of their lucrative pre-season tour of America.

Boyle was previously at Cheltenham Town for a five-year stint, helping them to the League Two league title in 2020/21. But first team opportunities were limited at the Terriers last season, making just 18 appearances in all competitions.

“I’m delighted the deal’s over the line, and looking forward to getting started," he told the Wrexham club website. “It’s a good time to join – I can’t say anything that people don’t already know about what’s happening at this football club.

"But it’s also a perfect time for me to join, I feel, and a perfect opportunity for me. It’s exciting to be a part of. As soon as I knew there would be an opportunity to join, it excited me. It’s a club that is only going in one direction.”
