Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix docuseries being left off the list of outstanding programmes nominated for an Emmy Award could have big consequences for the couple's fledgling media career. After the criticism they've faced from the media industry in recent weeks, this awards snub is just one more reminder of what is going wrong for the apir.

Without an Emmy nomination, the couple may have missed out on over $300million of exclusive deals and contracts, according to media commentator Mark Boardman.

Harry and Meghan lack of nomination came as a shock and has reportedly left the pair "rattled" after was "100 percent confident" the series would get at least one nomination. Ultimately, the documentary was left out of every category.

"There is a lot standing on Netflix's investment if it doesn't win but the award would carry huge status for them," Boardman told Daily Express US.

He previously predicted an Emmys Award win could have won the couple exclusive deals worth hundreds of millions.

Before the list was released, Boardman said: "Based on viewing figures alone, it has to be nominated for being groundbreaking TV."

While Harry and Meghan may now miss out on that $300 million of deals, they still had that initial $100 million contract with Netflix which they've continuously fulfilled. In the first week of their documentary, it averaged 4.5 million viewers. In fact, their viewership outsripped both The Crown and Stranger Things.

The story that the couple told included serious allegations against Harry's own family, including his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles III.

Their own introspective series was not the only story that they told with Netflix. Archewell Productions, owned by Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation, also produced Live to Lead. The seven episode series is inspired by the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Throughout the show, viewers watch inspiring interviews with a variety of leaders across the world.

This Emmy news comes right on the tail of losing their Spotify deal. The exclusive contract was worth about $25 million, but rumors say that since it was terminated early, the couple would not see that full payout. In fact, they could lose $10 million.

The podcast, Archetypes, only produced 12 episodes. On it, Meghan spoke with a variety of stars including Serena Williams and Paris Hilton. Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetisation at Spotify, has spoken publicly about working with Harry and Meghan, calling them "grifters".

He said on his own podcast: "You just sell documentaries and podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you talk about the royal family and you just complain about them."
