Susanna Reid had the perfect response to trolls who criticised her presenting skills.

The Good Morning Britain star, 52, took to Twitter to hit back at comments from social media users who took issue with one of the ITV show’s segments this week.

It came after one Twitter user wrote: “The fact you are talking about a Barbie which is a child’s film on a serious news show shows the public how far your standards have fallen and how bad you have got as a presenter...”

Another chimed in: “Today’s debate on @GMB is Barbie a good role model. Not a word on @BorisJohnson not handing over his phone @edballs @suaannareid100 Are we still pretending this is acceptable standard of journalism?”

But Susanna was quick to disagree with her critics as she replied: “We covered the Boris Johnson WhatsApp story at considerable length.”

In response to the Barbie comments, the 52-year-old tweeted: “We run a three hour show packed with serious and lighter news items, interviews and debates to appeal to a wide range of viewers. Barbie may not be the item that appeals to you, but it will to others.”

The veteran presenter then added: “This year I was nominated for a BAFTA, RTS & TRIC Award so it seems I’m getting better as a presenter.”

When some questioned what awards Susanna had won, she wrote: “I’m lucky enough to have won the TRIC twice.”

Leaping to her defence, one Twitter user urged Susanna not to pay any notice, joking: “Never read the comments @susannareid100 remember don’t even read this.”

“I enjoy the comments,” Susanna sassily replied. The Twitter spat comes days after Susanna was forced to shut down a “condescending” Good Morning Britain guest live on air.

Activist Tracey Mallaghan was on the show to debate whether the protestor who threw orange confetti at George Osborne’s wedding to Thea Rogers on Saturday “went too far”.

Susanna questioned Tracey's comments about the government's and George Osborne's actions regarding “climate denial“, as co-host Ed Balls shared his belief that her thoughts were not accurate.

Claiming Osborne was responsible for “a lot of terrible media messaging“ when it came to climate denial, Tracey encouraging Ed to do some “heavy reading“ on the topic.

Susanna then asked Tracey to tell them what happened for her to believe this, resulting in the guest asking: “What happened with what darling?”

After a brief pause, Susanna laughed before telling her: “Sorry, you don’t need to call me darling.”

Viewers watching at home were quick to back Susanna for calling out the 'condescending' comment.

One fan said: “This woman is so rude on the tv - ‘ darling ’… how condescending.“ While a second tweeted: “'Sorry, don’t call me Darling'. You tell her.“
