Huw Edwards' last appearance on BBC News before allegations came to light
Huw Edwards made his last appearance on BBC News on July 5th - a day before the veteran presenter was accused of paying a young person for sexually explicit photos.
Tonight Huw's wife named him as the presenter suspended after allegations he paid for sexually explicit images.
Vicky Flind said her husband was “suffering from serious mental health issues” and is currently “receiving inpatient hospital care, where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future”.
Her statement came shortly after the Metropolitan police said there was no evidence that Edwards committed a criminal offence, and the force would end its inquiries relating to the case.
It was reported last week that an unnamed presenter had paid a young person £35,000 for sexually explicit pictures over the course of three years. The incident is said to have taken place when the person was aged 17 until the age of 20.

Since then, three more other people spoke out to document their own experiences with the presenter which were alleged to include that one person aged in their early 20s met the presenter on a dating app before they received a number of "threatening messages" whilst another claimed to receive messages using love hearts and kisses on Instagram when they were 17-years-old.
Huw appeared on the BBC on July 5th (BBC)Huw appeared on BBC News for the lunchtime edition of their programme on Wednesday July 5th, where he reported the King's crown jewels being in Scotland. The allegations came through on Friday, when The Sun reported the claim from the young person's mother that a high profile BBC presenter had paid £35,000 for sexually explicit pictures over the course of three years
In his final appearance before the allegations came to light, he was reporting from Edinburgh where he told viewers: "Today at one we are live in Edinburgh on a day of royal celebrations where Scotland prepares to greet the new King.
"With full military honours and pageantry, the King will be presented the Crown Jewels of Scotland to mark his Coronation. It's an echo of the events of seventy years ago where the young Queen was presented with the ancient crown of Scotland."
Today, Huw's wife Vicky Flind released a statement where she named him as the BBC presenter at the centre of the scandal.
"In light of the recent reporting regarding the ‘BBC Presenter’ I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family. I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children," she said in a long statement.
"Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years. The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future."
