Meghan Markle and Prince Harry "know they went too far" with their Royal Family drama, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020 and have since opened up about their time with The Firm in an explosive Netflix documentary.

In the bombshell series, Harry claimed his brother Prince William left him terrified after he screamed and shouted at him during the Sandringham summit. He also alleged members of Kensington Palace had then "lied to protect my brother".

In Harry's debut memoir Spare, he further claimed his brother had physically attacked him.

Royal biographer Tom Bower has now suggested that Meghan and Harry know "they've probably gone too far" after their lucrative Spotify deal collapsed.

The Sussexes parted ways with the streaming platform after signing a $25million (£20million) deal in 2020. A top executive at Spotify then hit out at the couple, labelling them "grifters".

Bill Simmons, Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetisation at Spotify, said in his own podcast: "The f***ing grifters. That's the podcast we should have launched with them."

Speaking about Meghan, Tom told OK!: "All she's got is the baggage of the Oprah Winfrey interview and her damnation of the Royal Family in various successive interviews.

"That's why she's been so quiet the whole year. She knows they've probably gone too far and she doesn't know how to get out of it now. What is fascinating is how it will end? What will the climax be?"

Meghan and Harry announced their decision to part ways with Spotify in a statement which read: "Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together."

The couple continue to have a close relationship with Netflix, as a spokesperson for the streaming giant opened up about their partnership with Meghan and Harry amid claims it was on the rocks.

"The bond with Archewell Productions is one we deeply value. Harry & Meghan launched as Netflix's most spectacular documentary debut to date," a Netflix spokesperson said.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, they added: "Our exciting journey with them isn't ending anytime soon.

"We're currently collaborating on numerous projects, including the much-anticipated documentary series Heart of Invictus."
