A football coach has been arrested after disturbing videos allegedly showing him raping children were discovered on a phone he left behind at a restaurant, according to local authorities.

The accused, 56-year-old Camilo Hurtado Campos from Tennessee, faces charges of child rape and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The investigation unfolded when restaurant staff, attempting to locate the phone's owner, searched its contents and were horrified to uncover "unconscionable videos" featuring children between the ages of nine and 17, as stated by the Franklin Police Department.

Following an investigation, police discovered hundreds of disturbing videos and images on the phone, with many depicting Campos allegedly raping unconscious boys, it is alleged.

The police also allege that Campos exploited his role as a football coach to entice children to his residence, where he would assault them.

"During off-hours, Campos frequented nearby school playgrounds in both neighbourhoods where he approached kids and recruited them as players on his team," police said. "After gaining their trust, Campos invited many of the kids to his home where he drugged and then raped them."

Detectives have identified at least 10 children in the numerous videos found on Campos' phone. They have requested assistance from the public in identifying the remaining eight victims, as some of the children may not be aware of their victimisation due to their unconscious state during the assaults.

Police described Campos as a popular football coach and a 20-year resident of Franklin, a city of about 87,000 people 20 miles south of Nashville

Campos is currently held on a bond of $525,000 (£409,000) as the investigation continues. The Franklin Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case or knowledge of Campos' activities to come forward and assist in ensuring justice for the victims.

The drug police allege was used in the crimes was not named.
