Bayern Munich have lodged an improved offer for Tottenham striker Harry Kane as they double down on their approach for the England captain.

The German giants have identified Kane as their prime target for the summer transfer window. They are still on the hunt for a natural successor to Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona last year.

Kane was seen as a realistic target given he is out of contract in just 12 months’ time, with Premier League rivals Manchester United also interested. The Red Devils were forced to abandon their interest in Kane though due to Spurs co-owner Daniel Levy’s astronomical demands.

That opened the door for Bayern who lodged an initial offer of €70m (£60m) plus add-ons for the 29-year-old. That was swiftly rejected by Spurs, but it has not deterred the German side, who according to Sky in Germany have returned with an improved bid of €80m (£68m).

Tottenham are thought to be holding out for around £100m to sell Kane this summer but he might have something to say on that. Sky's report claims Kane is keen to seal a move to the Allianz Arena.

He also appears to have agreed to a summer switch. Previous reports revealed that Bayern have already managed to agree personal terms with Kane after a private meeting took place behind Spurs’ back.

Former Bayern technical director Michael Reschke recently suggested that Kane should be among his ex-employers prime targets. Speaking to Confidential, he said: "Kane is one of the top three number nines in the world with Haaland and Mbappe.

"If he joins Bayern he gives them a much greater chance of winning the Champions League. That is the reason Bayern are fighting for him. Bayern can't compete in bidding wars for the top players but they are still alluring to some if they show conviction."

Elsewhere, England boss Gareth Southgate has suggested that a move to Germany would not affect Kane’s international prospects. “I think with the players we’ve had abroad, we had Jude Bellingham in Dortmund, and we had a very good relationship with Borussia Dortmund when Jude was there for example,” he revealed.

“We’re such a small world now that we can fly and see them, we can go to the training grounds, we know the coaches abroad, our medical teams connect.

“These are top clubs and it’s easy to have as good a connection with Real Madrid where Bellingham is now compared to one of our big clubs really.”

Should Bayern struggle to get a deal over the line, it appears they have already identified an alternative in the form of Napoli sensation Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has also been linked with a move to Man Utd.
