Dan Walker revealed he had a shocking out-of-body experience after his terrifying bike crash that left him bloodied and bruised.

The 46-year-old former BBC Breakfast host was cycling near his home in Sheffield in February when he was hit by a car, leaving Dan with cuts, bruises and ripped clothes, but miraculously, no serious injuries.

Talking about the scary crash, the 5 News host said he went through a “reset moment” when he was being treated by paramedics after the accident.

“I had a strange experience where I was watching myself on the floor then eventually I came back into my body ... It was a sort of reset moment for me,” he told The Sun’s TV Mag.

Dan was overwhelmed with the support he had received from fans when news of his crash, broke as he told them he was “glad to be alive” and shared a snap of his swollen and bloodied face.

“Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don't think anything is broken,” he tweeted at the time.

“Blown away by all the lovely messages. Thank you. Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but - amazingly - nothing broken.

”Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics & police around me,” Dan wrote.

He praised the NHS for treating him after the incident, as well as passersby and police officers who attended the scene. Reflecting on the accident, Dan admitted wearing a cycle helmet probably saved his life.

“The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so - if you’re on a bike - get one on your head. Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here,” he shared.

Dan, who moved from the BBC to helm Channel 5’s flagship news programme last year, said the driver stopped “50cm away from my head”, and while coming round after being knocked out in the crash, he became philosophical about his life.

“It’s then that you think of the things you’ve left unsaid or things you’ve always wanted to do,” he mused.
