A crowd of terrified Brits scrambled up a Spanish beach after a shark was spotted prowling through the shallow waters.

British tourists and locals were enjoying a dip on a beach in Torremolinos, Malaga when the monster was seen darting under the surface on June 27.

Dozens of people raced to get out of the water and to find safety on shore as the shark's dorsal spin was spotted piercing the waves off the coastal resort town. This was the fifth similar sighting reported in a month. Just days ago, another shark triggered panic at Pontevedra Beach.

Brit tourist Emily McEwan - who was on holiday with her family after recently giving birth to her son - uploaded a video of the terrifying scenes.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: "It was a little bit of a surprise because we've all seen films like Jaws but you never really expect yourself to be in the sea when you see that fin."

She added: "A crowd started to gather on the beach whilst we were in the sea and I thought 'I don't like that, I don't like that', because whenever a crowd gathers on the beach it usually means something is wrong."

"And then to my right I saw a tail fin. That's when a lifeguard came out and he sort of went up and down for quite a while."

Emily explained how the shark lurked in the waters for around 30 minutes before lifeguards managed to entice it to swim out to sea.

'When I saw that shark I thought "this can't be real, like this doesn't happen. We're only in Spain and these are really shallow waters. It can't be possible," she said.

"There was a beach bar as well, the staff were coming down going 'don't worry, it's just a turtle, you don't have to panic'.

"But it didn't really look like a turtle.

"We all saw that fin and everybody came out of the water, like nobody was brave enough to stay in with that."
