Ten people have been shot at a 4th of July party in Louisiana and four left injured in Washington DC as celebrations led to a spate of horrific gun violence.

Lansing Police responded to reports of a shooting on Wednesday morning in Washington Square just shortly at 1.30am after four victims, all black men ranging from 19-40, suffered gunshot wounds.

Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons of the Metropolitan Police Department said upon their arrival officers discovered multiple shooting victims, including a 9-year-old and a 17-year-old.

A dark coloured SUV seen driving through the neighbourhood, stopped and then shot at the victims outside enjoying the July Fourth holiday, Mr Parsons said, calling the shooting targeted.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries.

However, cops said none of their injuries are life threatening. A suspect has not been arrested in connection to the shooting as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Shreveport Police were also called to reports of a shooting just before midnight on July 4 on Pearl Avenue in Louisiana.

Officials say three people are dead and at least seven are injured - with cops struggling to get to the victims due to the amount of cars on the road.

Lt. Van Wray said in a statement: “Getting here and getting EMS here was a difficult thing. A lot of us had to park our cars and take off running because there were so many cars on the side of the street."

District A Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor said gathering was a block party that is held every year on the 4th of July.

“This should not happen. Now we are the victims of a mass shooting in our community.... It is trauma for those individuals that only wanted to have a very good time on this holiday,” she said.

Police are still at the scene, according to officials.

The shooting is the latest in a string of mass shootings over a violent holiday weekend.

Twenty-eight people were shot, two fatally at a block party in Baltimore early Sunday. Authorities say many of the shooting victims were under 18.

On Monday night, a gunman in a bulletproof vest has opened fire on the streets of Philadelphia, killing five people and wounding two boys, 2 and 13, before he surrendered to responding officers, police.

Three people were killed and eight others injured when several men fired indiscriminately into a crowd of hundreds that had gathered in a Texas neighborhood following a festival in the area, authorities said.

The shooting in the Fort Worth neighbourhood of Como happened late Monday night, about two hours after the annual ComoFest ended.
