Panicked swimmers ran for their lives out of the water as a shark was seen rushing towards the coast in shallow water.

Beachgoers at Perdido Key Beach, Florida were sent into a frenzy Sunday as a shark was spotted in the sea, approaching the bustling shoreline.

Panic ensued as swimmers hurriedly made their way to safety, while one courageous individual managed to capture the heart-pounding encounter on video.

The incident unfolded around 2pm local time when a large shadowy figure was seen gliding through the crystal-clear waters mere yards away from unsuspecting beach visitors.

The beach, known for its stunning white sand and vibrant atmosphere, quickly turned into a scene of chaos and fear.

It comes as a fisherman was dragged overboard by a shark while fishing in Florida.

The man, only known as Nick, was dragged overboard by a shark while fishing at Everglades National Park in Florida.

He was washing his hands over the water when a shark suddenly attacked him. His friends on the boat tried to help him while he struggled to get back on board.

Nick eventually made it back onto the boat, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
