Manchester United have the chance to close the gap on Manchester City to just three points when they host Leicester on Sunday afternoon.

While Erik ten Hag is trying to focus on on-pitch matters though, attention remains on the ownership situation. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has now laid out his plans for the club should his bid be successful, with the Englishman one of three parties who have made official offers.

That comes as Paul Scholes crowned the man he believes is the 'new Roy Keane' and Alejandro Garnacho considers a U-turn on his international future. Here, Mirror Football looks at the latest Manchester United news.

Ratcliffe lays out plans

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has laid out his plans for Manchester United if his bid to buy the club is successful. The Englishman is the billionaire chairman of chemical giant Ineos and has pledged to take a "fan-centred" approach to his ownership.

"We would see our role as the long-term custodians of Manchester United on behalf of the fans and the wider community. We are ambitious and highly competitive and would want to invest in Manchester United to make them the number one club in the world once again," a statement from Ineos and Ratcliffe said.

"We also recognise that football governance in this country is at a crossroads. We would want to help lead this next chapter, deepening the culture of English football by making the club a beacon for a modern, progressive, fan-centred approach to ownership."

Scholes names 'new Roy Keane'

Paul Scholes has crowned Casemiro as the next Roy Keane as he made his love for the Brazilian clear. Casemiro has been a key player for United this season and Scholes believes he is taking on a similar role to legendary skipper Keane.

"He knows where he wants everyone to be. I’ve said this before, a lot of us have been surprised by the quality of his play because at Madrid it was about Kroos and Modric, but his passes forward, his awareness of people around him, he’s been fantastic," he told BT Sport.

"People say he’s a holding midfield player - I don’t see that. I think he does everything. He’s as close to Roy Keane as I have seen. As a Man United midfield player, you should be involved with everything. I think he’s been fantastic."

Garnacho considers U-turn

Alejandro Garnacho is considering making a U-turn on his allegiances at international level. The winger has broken into the United senior team this season and is seen as one of the club's brightest prospects.

But he has a decision to make when it comes to who he represents on the international stage. Both Argentina and Spain are battling to bring Garnacho into their set-ups, with the youngster having already spent time in a training camp with the World Cup winners.

Spain though hope the decision to leave him out of the squad for the World Cup gives them an edge. La Roja are hoping to persuade him to ditch Argentina with the promise of immediate caps.
