Madonna found 'unresponsive' with 'frightened' family fearing they'd lose her

Madonna's family are struggling after the "frightening and scary experience" of finding her unconscious and unresponsive.

The pop legend, 64, was rushed to hospital after falling seriously ill with a bacterial infection and spending several days in intensive care, with her loved ones staying by her bedside over the fear of losing her.

Good Morning Britain's Ranvir Singh spoke to North America correspondent Noel Phillips as she shared an update on the Queen of Pop's condition.

Ranvir said: "Fans across the world will be shocked to wake up and hear Madonna's family were told to prepare for the worst."

He explained: "'We believed we were going to lose her' those are the words from the 64-year-old's family, this really was a frightening and scary experience for them and, of course, her millions of supporters because according to reports, she was found unconscious and unresponsive and then had to spend several days on an ICU ward in New York City.

"She also had to have a tube inserted through her mouth and had to be helped with her breathing.

"And, one of this country's leading medical experts has told us this morning that Madonna should really be counting her blessing after what can be described as a deadly ordeal."

A statement from her talent manager Guy Oseary said: "On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.

"We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

The 64-year-old was scheduled to start her 'Celebration' tour on July 15.

The upcoming tour included two shows as Madison Square Garden in New York in August as well as four sold-out shows at the O2 Arena, London from October, 14.

Madonna aimed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her breakout hit single, Holiday, by embarking on her first greatest hits tour.

Her 'Celebrations' tour would be the singer's return to arenas and stadiums after her Madame X shows in 2019 and 2020.
