Manchester United winger Antony has denied accusations of domestic violence made against him by his ex-girlfriend.

Antony has been accused of inflicting "domestic violence, threat and bodily injury” on Gabriela Cavallin, who filed a report to police in Sao Paulo earlier this month. In an emotional interview on Brazilian TV, Cavallin – a DJ and influencer – claimed the United player had threatened her and taken her prisoner in their home.

The 23-year-old had been silent, but has now published a statement on Instagram in which he said he has been falsely accused and was unfairly being investigated.

In a statement translated from Portuguese to English, he wrote: “To friends, fans and followers. For you, after submitting my statement at the police station where the investigation into me is taking place, I wanted to speak publicly for the first time since I was falsely accused of assault.

“I stayed silent until now so that nothing could interfere with the investigation process, but during all those days my family and I suffered in silence. Despite being born in a very deprived community, I had never been through a situation similar to this, in which a false assault charge resulted in a preliminary and unfair public judgement on the part of some.

“After the closure of the investigation my innocence will be proven certain that justice will prevail and the damage initially caused to my image will be in the past. Thank you for all the countless messages of support received at this very difficult time.”

Mirror Football have contacted Manchester United for comment.

Speaking to Brazilian channel Record, Cavallin claimed Antony told her: "'If you don't stay with me, you won't stay with anyone else. Everything will end here for you, we will die together, me, you and our son'."

Of another incident in which Antony is alleged to have taken her prisoner, she claimed: "He broke my suitcase and kept my passport. He broke my cell phone, he wouldn't let me go out. I stayed there from 10pm until close to 3:30am.

"I just wanted to get out of there but he said that I would only leave after deleting everything".

She also alleged that she was the victim of violence when carrying their unborn child, who was lost during pregnancy. The tragedy is said to have taken place in Amsterdam, before Antony left Ajax for United in a £85.5million move last summer.

"At that moment I died. I panicked, I started crying a lot. I had a 30-hour delivery. It was the greatest sadness of my life," she said. "He had come back from vacation and called me. He was just apologising, saying he was very sorry about what had happened."

Cavallin has vowed to “do whatever it takes” to pursue Antony. She said: "I'm going to England to denounce him for assault, failure to help, false imprisonment, psychological abuse and for everything he did to me."
