'Devastated' girls give mum silent treatment after her gender reveal

Two young girls were left "devastated" after their mum's gender reveal didn't go the way they had hoped, and they even gave her the "silent treatment" for the whole day.

Laura Bott, 25, thought she was about to capture a heartwarming moment with her two daughters Avaeah-Grace and Alana-Mae when she filmed herself popping a cannon filled with smoke and confetti, as she thought they'd be thrilled to discover what gender their newest sibling would be.

But as pink confetti fell from the sky to signify that Laura and her fiancé David would be having another daughter, the two girls burst into tears on camera - before telling their mum that they "wanted a brother" and "don't want another sister".

And following the reveal, NHS clinical support worker Laura said that both her daughters refused to speak to her, and it took them weeks to get over the devastation that they would not be welcoming a baby brother.

The mum, from Chilwell, Nottingham, said: "I didn't know how to deal with their [my daughter's] reactions. My two little girls didn't speak to me for the rest of the day. They didn't want to be my friends.

"They were not having any of it. They kept saying they wanted a brother and we had to explain to them that you can't pick the gender. They just had their hearts set on a brother.

"My best friend has a little boy and they spend a lot of time with my two nephews and they just really wanted a brother instead of a sister.

"They did come round to the idea of a sister in the end but it took them a couple of weeks. They went to school heartbroken and were devastated for weeks."

Laura held the gender reveal party in her garden back in September, and in March this year, she welcomed her third daughter into the world and named her Ayla-Jorge.

And while her older daughters weren't happy with the idea of a third sister at first, the mum-of-three insisted they're now "obsessed" with the latest addition to their family.

She added: "When I went into the hospital to have Ayla-Jorge, they were both very excited.

"When she was born, they took a photo into school to show their friends and teachers. And when I came out of hospital I went to pick them up from school with their baby sister and they took her round the school showing everyone.

"They now sing to her. They try to dance with her and play hand-clap games and show her their toys. They are obsessed with her and just want to hold her."

However, Ayla-Jorge's arrival hasn't stopped them both from wanting a baby brother in the future - even though Laura and David are happy with three children.

"They have asked about us having another baby as they are still set on having a brother but my partner has said no more," Laura explained, "I think he's thinking about all the weddings he will have to pay for in future and if I have another baby and it's a girl, that's another one to pay for."
