Meghan Markle 'not a great talent' claims industry exec after Spotify axe

Meghan Markle has been described as "not a great audio talent" based on her previous podcast, following the announcement that she has parted ways with Spotify.

It comes following the news that Meghan, 41, and her husband Prince Harry, 38, have parted ways with the streaming platform after signing a lucrative deal in 2020.

She had hosted the award-winning podcast Archetypes on the audio platform following their deal. The podcast - which ran for 12 episodes - launched on Spotify last year.

Following the news that the couple have parted ways with the streaming platform, the CEO of a leading talent agency in the US has shared his thoughts on the former actor.

Jeremy Zimmer, 65 - who is the co-founder and CEO of United Talent Agency (UTA) - mentioned Meghan to outlet Semafor while at the Cannes Lions festival last week.

He said: "Turns out [Meghan] was not a great audio talent, or necessarily any kind of talent. And, you know, just because you're famous doesn't make you great at something."

His comment comes after WME - the talent agency that's managed Meghan since around April - teased that she's already developing content for those who liked her podcast.

WME told the Wall Street Journal recently: "The team behind Archetypes remain proud of the podcast they created at Spotify. Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform."

It was announced earlier this month that Meghan and Prince Harry's audio production company Archewell Audio had "mutually agreed" to part ways with the Spotify.

A joint statement issued earlier by the two companies read: "Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together."

Meghan hosted 12 episodes of the Archetypes podcast on the platform, after having fronted a 'holiday special' episode with her husband when their deal was announced.

Her podcast aimed to "investigate, dissect, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back," and it saw Meghan interview a host of guests, including some fellow celebrities.

She'd said in a teaser: "I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here."

Guests had included tennis player Serena Williams, actor Mindy Kaling and singer Mariah Carey. Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell was another participant.
