A routine visit to a sandwich shop in Buckhead left one woman horrified when she allegedly discovered a racial slur on her receipt instead of her name

Darlene McCoy Jackson said she placed her order at Woody's Cheesesteak in Buckhead on Friday and provided her name as "Darlene."

However, she noticed on the receipt that it had been entered as "Darky." When she approached the employee about the error, she claims he was dismissive and refused to correct it or offer a refund, Fox5 reports.

Darlene, a radio personality and singer, took to Instagram to share the incident with her followers, expressing her disappointment.

"When they took the order, they asked my name, and I told them ‘Darlene’, and he typed in ‘Darky’. And I noticed it when I was paying for it because the name came up on the screen," she said.

"I said, ‘Wait a minute, my name is Darlene.’ He says, ‘I heard you.’ I said, ‘But you have Darky. Could you change it?’ He says, ‘No.’ I say, ‘My name is Darlene, not Darky,’ and he says, ‘Don’t worry about it.’

Steven Renner, the owner of Woody's Cheesesteak, issued an apology to Darlene, stating that the incident did not align with the values of inclusivity, diversity, and respect that the establishment upholds.

Steven explained that the employee had made a simple mistake while abbreviating the name "Darly," accidentally typing "Darky" due to the proximity of the "K" and "L" keys on the keyboard.

Renner also mentioned that language barriers may have contributed to the miscommunication, as the employee is Hispanic.

"I think he does the best he can taking drink orders, sandwich orders, but a lot of the rest was lost... there’s never been an experience like this before," Steven said.

Meanwhile, Darlene vowed never to return to the restaurant. She said: "I was a first-time customer, now I’m a last time customer. I’ll never be back."
