Prince Andrew is supporting Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, at their home after the royal underwent surgery following her breast cancer diagnosis.

Fergie, 63, is recuperating at Royal Lodge in Windsor, Berkshire, with her family, including Andrew and their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The grandmother of three was told she had cancer following a routine mammogram, her representatives told Mirror tonight.

The statement also confirmed Sarah is now at the home, a Grade II-listed property and part of the Crown Estate she shares with Andrew, 63, despite divorcing him in 1996 after 10 years of marriage.

They had separated some four years earlier, reportedly in large part due to Andrew's frequent time away with duties as a naval officer.

But it is understood he is by his ex-wife's side as she recovers from her time at King Edward VII hospital in Marylebone, Central London.

A spokesman for the Duchess told Mirror: "Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening.

"She was advised she needed to undergo surgery which has taken place successfully.

"The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family.

"The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

"She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening."

Sarah was notably missing this week from attending Royal Ascot due to her cancer operation.

And Andrew has not been seen in public this week and attended only the private aspects of the Order of the Garter Day ceremony last Monday.

The couple, who have lived together again since 2008, have been threatened with eviction from their 31-room mansion on the Windsor estate.
