New York Jets safety Chuck Clark will miss the entire 2023 NFL season after suffering a serious knee injury.

News first emerged earlier this month that Clark had suffered a knee injury during a Jets practice session. His injury led to the Jets signing fellow safety Adrian Amos from the Green Bay Packers. Amos became eighth former Packers star to make the move the the franchise after their trade for Aaron Rodgers this summer.

have now reported that Clark has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee. The safety will require surgery and is expected to miss the full 2023 NFL season in a major blow to the Jets.

Clark only signed for the Jets in March following a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The 28-year-old was drafted in 2017 in the sixth round with the 186th overall pick, and had spent his first six seasons in the NFL with Baltimore before making the move to New York.

Prior to the injury, Clark had an impressive record of being one of the most durable players in the NFL. He had played 96 out of a total of 97 possible games, ending last season by featuring in more than 1,200 consecutive defensive snaps which dated back to the 2021 season.

Amos is now likely to be a first choice safety for the Jets, alongside Jordan Whitehead, after signing a one-year deal reportedly worth $4 million (£3.1m). His move was confirmed on June 13 and in the same week that the injury to Clark first emerged in the news.

Amos already has experience of playing with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with the pair having previously been teammates with the Packers. They are joined by several more familiar faces in New York.

Wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb have also moved to the Jets from Green Bay this off-season. They are joined by offensive tackle Billy Turner, who arrived from the Denver Broncos, and quarterback Tim Boyle, who spent two years at Lambeau Field before having spells with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears before signing for the Jets.

While the Jets have already had a busy off-season in terms of new arrivals, the most high-profile will be Rodgers following his trade from the Packers. The 39-year-old quarterback had previously spent 18 years in Wisconsin before making the switch to New York just days before the 2023 NFL Draft in April.

Rodgers has won one Super Bowl in his career but not since 2011 with the Packers. His most recent individual success came with his second consecutive NFL MVP award in 2021 to follow on from his triumph the previous year and to take his total tally up to four for his career.
