Date set for Maguire attempted bribery and assault retrial after Greece incident
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire 's retrial over a conviction in Mykonos is set for February 2024.
Maguire was initially handed a conviction and 21-month suspended sentence after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery. However, the 30-year-old launched an appeal, meaning a new trial will take place, and has vowed to clear his name.
The appeal meant that, under Greek law, the conviction is quashed ahead of the new trial taking place. The initial conviction came after an incident during a family holiday before the start of the 2020-21 Premier League season, and Maguire - who has no criminal record - is expected to testify via video link rather than appearing in person at the February hearing.

"He told them he will be sending representatives but he will be available via video link for any questions.”
According to The Mail, the trial - which had been rescheduled for June 2023 - was pushed back again following a request from Maguire's legal team. The new date for the trial is February 7.

The England defender has claimed the incident took place when strangers attempted to inject his sister Daisy with an unknown substance. He claimed to have been taken to a police station and beaten, before fleeing amid fears over a kidnap plot.
Maguire returned to Manchester United's first team after returning to the UK following the summer 2020 incident. He has made more than 100 appearances for the club, including 31 last season.

“I don’t worry about what the outcome is going to be. I don’t worry about anything to do with it because my conscience is so clear about what happened that night. The people who were there that night, there were nine of us, we all understand what went on and what happened.
“I can remember at the time, when it happened, a lot of people were like, ‘Well, why hasn’t he got security following him around? He’s got enough money to do that.’ But the bottom line is, I’m on holiday with my family. I’m not on a lads’ holiday.”
