Richard Madeley left viewers cringing as he made an awkward blunder on Good Morning Britain earlier today.

Actor and comedian Omid Djalili appeared on the ITV show this morning to promote his new series The Change, a comedy-drama written by Bridget Christie centred around a woman's experience with the menopause.

"She's putting the menopause at the heart of the story, against the beautiful, magical and at times unsettling backdrop of The Forest of Dean, and we’ve no doubt The Change will be a real treat for Channel 4 viewers," producer Morwenna Gordon teased when the series was first announced.

Omid, who plays Steve in the Channel 4 comedy, popped into the Good Morning Britain studios to chat with Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid ahead of The Change premiering this evening.

But before the comedian made his way to the couch, Richard told viewers Omid would be joining him and Susanna on the show to "chat about his menopause".

As a cis male, Omid will not physically experience the loss of ovarian follicular function and a decline in circulating blood oestrogen levels.

Richard's gaffe didn't go unnoticed by Omid, who took to his Twitter account before his interview to tease the Good Morning Britain presenter.

"I just put on the TV and Richard Madeley just said I’ll be on talking about my menopause hahaha [smiling face emoji]," Omid told his followers.

Omid's new TV venture sees his co-star Bridget play a character called Linda, who discovers she has begun to go through menopause after fearing she was suffering from early on-set dementia.

Spurred on with a new lease of life, Linda then digs out her old motorcycle and makes a plan to reconnect with herself after writing down and calculating all the hours of 'invisible work' she has been doing in her household.

The Change premieres on Channel 4 this evening with all episodes available to stream online.
