Martine Croxall has been flooded with support after announcing her beloved dad died two years ago.

The BBC News anchor took to social media to explain that she hadn't written about the devastating news prior to her tweet but found today, Father's Day, harder than her first year without him.

Taking to her Twitter page, the 54-year-old said she "envies" people who had spent Father's Day with their dads as she praised her late dad, Ian, for being a "remarkable man".

Sharing a picture of her late father who was smiling, Martine penned: "I've not written about it before but my dad died in Oct 2021.

"We were devastated but it was a blessed relief for him."

She went on to write: "This is our second Father's Day without him - harder than the first.

"His name was Ian. He was a remarkable man.

"I envy anyone who got to mark today with their dad."

Martine's post which has been liked by her followers over 1,000 times was soon flooded with messages of condolences.

One follower wrote: "Sending Hugs to you. My Dad died 11 years ago today always brings back happy memories but people don't realise what they have until it's gone."

"Remember the good times - memories never fade," said a second.

While a third added: "So sorry for your loss Martine. I know how you feel sometimes that feeling is harder to come to terms with after the shock of it all."

Spotting the similarities between Martine and her late dad, one follower typed: "I can see you in him. He must have been so proud of you, as you are of him. He and your mum did a great job. I hope you were able to remember all the good times today."

"Condolences, Martine. I suspect he was very proud of you," added another.

Martine who frequently appeared on BBC News departed her role on the channel in March after the channel and BBC World News prepared to merge.

In a video shared on Twitter, she said: "As you probably know, a single news operation will be with you from Monday.

"This is me signing off from the BBC News Channel in its current iteration from my happy place, Studio E. It has been the greatest privilege to broadcast to you from here all this time. Thank you for joining us."

Martine is still employed by the corporation.
