Two dead as shooter fires into packed music festival crowd

A gunman has opened fire into a music festival crowd leaving two dead and forcing organisers to cancel today's event.

Three people were also injured during the shooting at Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge in Quincy, Washington, US.

According to local police the gunman opened fire, shooting randomly into a crowd of people at a campground near the festival site.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody and has not yet been identified.

His motive is unclear at this stage.

The shooting began at around 8.23pm around “several hundred yards away” from the venue.

According to the police after initially opening fire, the shooter then “walked away” from that location and “continued to shoot randomly into the crowd” before being arrested.

An update from the festival organisers read: "Due to the incident that took place in the overflow camping area last night, we regret to inform you that day 2 of Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge has been cancelled.

"We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the local authorities and staff who acted quickly to manage the situation.

"Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic event."

Immediately after the shooting the organisers advised festival goers to avoid the area around the Gorge Gate H campgrounds, where the shooting happened.

They did say "there is no further danger to festival-goers or the campgrounds."

Earlier in the evening police had sent out an alert of an active shooter situation at the amphitheatre.

It warned people to “seek cover. Run, hide or fight (the) suspect.”

The identity of the victims have not yet been revealed.

Artists set to appear at the festival over the two days included Marshmello, Afrojack, Dillion Francis, Joyryde, Subtronics and Hyperfunk.
