Manchester United's summer priority remains adding a major No 9 to address their goalscoring issues.

The Red Devils enjoyed a productive campaign, returning to the top four and claiming silverware, but their issues remain clear. Erik ten Hag has plenty of areas to address in his squad but bringing in a striker who can ease the goal burden on Marcus Rashford is key.

Harry Kane has been heavily linked with his contract at Tottenham winding down, but other alternatives are also being sought. Ten Hag spent more than £200m in his first year and may need similar funds if he is to close the gap on neighbours Manchester City.

Here's the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

'Unrealistic' Kane move axed

The club have abandoned their pursuit of Kane after refusing to match Daniel Levy ’s demands for the Tottenham striker.

Kane was at the top of the Red Devils’ summer transfer shortlist with a big-name striker among Erik ten Hag ’s priorities. The England captain was thought to be a realistic prospect due to him having just a year remaining on his contract in North London.

However, a switch to Old Trafford now appears highly unlikely. According to The Guardian, the Red Devils have pulled out of the race for his signature.

The reason for that decision is that the club hierarchy feel that the fee that Spurs would demand for Kane’s signature is ‘unrealistic’. Tottenham chairman Levy is keen to hold onto his services and would be willing to run the risk of him leaving on a free next summer at the end of his contract.

Club given green light to alternative

Despite being set to miss out on Kane, the Red Devils have been given a green light to go in for Dusan Vlahovic, with Juventus going back on earlier claims he was not for sale.

Serbian striker Vlahovic only joined Juve in January 2022 after impressing with Fiorentina. He had previously attracted interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal particularly keen, and has more recently emerged as a potential back-up with United opting against a move for Harry Kane.

Juve bosses had insisted the 23-year-old isn't for sale, despite the Bianconeri missing out on Champions League qualification. Now, though, it appears things have changed ahead of a potentially busy summer.

Arsenal wonderkid on radar

Ethan Nwaneri, the Premier League's youngest ever player, is considering quitting Arsenal for a Premier League rival.

Nwaneri made history when he came on as a substitute during Arsenal's 3-0 win at Brentford in September, aged 15 years and 181 days. The midfielder's schoolboy registration ends later this month and it remains unclear whether he will sign a new contract.

If Nwaneri decides to leave the Emirates, Chelsea, Manchester City and United are all waiting to sign him. Mikel Arteta is keen for the talent to commit his future to Arsenal after singing his praises following his record-breaking appearance.
