This is the astonishing moment an American tourist grabs a kangaroo by the throat following an attack at a popular zoo.

Video, filmed by the man's daughter, shows the nasty bust up which took place at Perth Zoo in Australia.

The man can be seen smiling nervously as the kangaroo approaches him after he bends down to pet the animal.

The situation soon turned aggressive though as the dad tried to fend of the marsupial while his family filmed the event, laughing in the background.

The video posted on TikTok, via brroke.so.hip, was captioned: "My dad was just trying to make sure that kangaroo stopped getting frisky with that lady."

A woman was seen trying to get away from the animal in the clip before the US tourist came between them but in response the kangaroo began to rear up.

The roo then jumped up at the man, clawing as he tried his best to keep it away.

A voice behind the camera shouted: "Here's your chance to fight a kangaroo," followed by laughter as the assault continued.

The dad, wearing a cap, blue jeans, black t-shirt and brown boots, lifts up his leg to defend himself but the animal continues to come at him before a younger man steps in view of the camera.

Both men can then be seen trying to keep the animal at bay, with the duo holding the roo's front paws at one point to stop it scratching.

However, the kangaroo can then been seen launching both of its legs at them while balancing up on its tail.

As the men try and walk away the animal follows, kicking and jumping.

The ordeal came to an abrupt end when a staff member at the zoo intervened, telling the two men to walk away.

Near the end of the video the zoo member can be heard saying: "Cut it out, cut it out, naughty boy."

Kangaroos are mostly docile but they can be unpredictable when threatened, or if they feel their territory is being encroached upon.

Interactions with humans are rare and fewer than five people a year seek treatment for kangaroo attacks in New South Wales, Australia.
