Liverpool have begun their summer business strongly, with Alexi Mac Allister's arrival bolstering the Reds' midfield following a number of high-profile exits.

Jurgen Klopp has been boosted by the arrival of new sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, with the German being brought in to facilitate the Reds' summer objectives. There remain a number of targets, with more midfielders expected to arrive following the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

The players are on holiday at the moment, but will return to Merseyside following the international break, with an intense pre-season expected following last season's under-achievement.

The Dutchman joined from PSV in January, with his reputation as being a left-winger. He has since played as a striker, as well as in in a deeper role for the Reds, proving himself to be a versatile option.

The 24-year-old joined the Reds from PSV in January in a move worth £45million, since scoring seven times and providing three assists in 20 Premier League appearances. He ended the season on 20 goals in all competitions, having impressed for PSV during the first half of the campaign.

Fulham are determined to hold onto Joao Palhinha this summer, with director of football Tony Khan denying rumours that the Portuguese midfielder has a release clause in his contract.

Palhinha joined Fulham in a £20million transfer from Sporting back in July last year, with the defensive midfielder proving to be an inspired piece of business.

Steven Gerrard has 'welcomed' the offer of taking over Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq as the Liverpool legend looks for a return to football.

Gerrard has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa last October and is set to become the new manager of the Saudi Pro League club.

He will join Karim Benzema as the latest big name to secure a move to the Gulf State this summer, managing a side which includes former Mainz striker Robin Quaison on its books.
