A couple who had been married for more than 50 years were found dead together in their beloved summer house after believing they couldn't bare to be apart.

Both Robert and Patricia Lloyd were both terminally-ill and their daughter described them as 'most wonderful parents' who 'couldn’t bear the thought of one not being there to support the other'.

Robert, 84, and Patricia, 80, were found together at their home in the village of Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, on June 1.

They were found at around 11pm after concerns had been raised for their welfare and the deaths were initially treated as ‘unexplained’ with no one else believed to have been involved.

Sarah Davis paid a heartfelt tribute to her parents.

She told Birmingham Live: “Mum and dad were a loving, dedicated couple married for more than 50 years, and the most wonderful parents I could have asked for.

"They will be greatly missed by their family and many close friends.

“They were both terminally ill, dad with cancer and mum with a brain tumour and dementia, and they couldn’t bear the thought of one not being there to support the other.

"They are now at peace, and we will all cherish our memories of them over the years, remembering them fondly together, at home in their much-loved summer house, looking at their beautiful garden.”

The family has asked that they and their neighbours be ‘left in peace’ and that they ‘have their privacy respected at this very sad and difficult time’.

West Mercia Police confirmed that a joint inquest will be opened on June 15.
