No matter how shameful it may be to admit, it's extremely difficult to tell twins apart from one another.

People often rely on different characteristics and personality traits to differentiate identical siblings from one another. Or if all else fails, you can always rely on their names.

However, this isn't always possible, as explained by one frustrated teacher who was taken aback after parents named their identical twin girls near-identical names.

Taking to forum site Reddit, the anonymous user slammed the "ridiculous" names of the two classmates. In the post, the educator revealed they teach twins named Selene and Selina.

She then questioned: "Anyone else ever come across an equally ridiculous sib set?"

According to the comments, however, it seemed quite common for parents to give twins similar-sounding names.

Having raked in over 500 comments since sharing, people flocked to the comment section to share their first-hand experiences with twin names.

One reply read: "My husband went to school with twins named Chris & Christopher." A second said: "My dad knows twins his age named Rick/Ricky and Richard." And someone else revealed: "I went to school with identical twins named Kelly and Kellen."

While it was not clear if all responders liked the names they shared, several did debate the merits of similar monikers.

Someone else wrote: "I know twins with the same name same spelling, no joke. Both Leonardo. She loved the name and had it picked out and had SURPRISE twins… just rolled with the same name still. Different middle names and mercifully the second at least go by the middle name but what.

"Logistical nightmare. She is the loveliest and best neighbour but that part about her (grown) twin boys is a head-scratcher for sure lol," someone wrote," they added.

Another said: "As a twin mum, names like these make my teeth itch."

"As a twin mum, I’m right there with you…" another parent agreed.
