Babies cry. It's a fact of life - one people might wish they could change - but a fact of life nonetheless.

So you can imagine one mum's surprise when she received a letter from a neighbour complaining about her baby's 'disturbing' noises.

The parent thought her little boy, aged 15 months, had developed a "pretty solid sleep routine". But it turns out one unimpressed neighbour thinks otherwise, as she learned the hard way.

Keen to defend herself, the Australian mum took to Sydney Mums Facebook page.

She there shared a photograph of the printed letter before answering its accusations.

As Kidspot reports, the note read: "Please six long months we have been having very disturbing baby crying starting early mornings. Please find a solution. We need our sleep as much as you do. I am sure residents who are closer to you feel the same."

According to the attentive parent, her son generally sleeps through most of the night after being put to bed around 7.30pm - waking once for a feed at 3am or 4am if he's hungry, before sleeping until approximately 7am.

However, she did concede he's been noisier than usual this week due to illness. "We've been to the doctor's, he gets baby panadol, saline spray and I use an aspirator to clear his nose - when we do any of these things he hates it and cries at the top of his lungs but I know it's necessary for his healing," she explained.

Nonetheless, she was frustrated by the anonymous letter and questioned its author's intentions.

The mum also said she was considering retaliating by pinning earplugs to her property's noticeboard - something commenters encouraged her to do.

Shocked by the neighbour's approach, several parents suggested the mum was within her rights to send a "petty" response. One person recommended leaving out a set of fake keys before instructing the neighbour to find somewhere else to live, with another advocated playing crying baby noises on a loudspeaker.

Several also reassured the mum she had nothing to apologise for and said she ought to tell this to anyone who questions her. Above all, commenters were keen to offer comfort, meanwhile blasting the neighbour's "selfish behaviour".

One such reply said: "They could have left you a cute little basket of helpful things and said please reach out if you need anything. But nope usual selfish behaviour these days. Babies cry!! We were all one!"
