Citizens donated blood for Ukrainian troops yesterday as the country delayed its counter attack.

It was claimed Ukraine does not have sufficient weapons and ammunition to push Russian troops out of its country.

Dr Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the president’s office, said the military needed more reinforcements.

He said: “If you want to start a successful counter-offensive you need everything at your disposal, including artillery, armoured vehicles and tanks, so probably we don’t have enough.”

But President Zelensky insisted that, despite the delays, the attack would happen some time over the summer. He said: “I don’t know how long it will take. But we are going to do it and we are ready.”

Zhovkva also blasted European countries for still buying Russian gas.

He said: “Every euro is spent on producing more missiles and artillery to kill more Ukrainians.” His comments came as people queued to give blood in downtown Kyiv for their Armed Forces appeal.

Yesterday a two-year-old girl was killed after a Russian airstrike hit the city of Dnipro and another 22 people were injured.
