Real Madrid have reactivated their interest in Chelsea forward Kai Havertz as they do not believe Harry Kane wants to leave the Premier League.
Kane, 29, is out of contract at Tottenham next summer and this summer is likely to be the last opportunity Spurs have to cash in on the striker before risking him leaving as a free agent. Their preference is to sell him to a club outside of England and not to a direct rival.
The England international is on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s target list this summer as he is on red alert to sign a central striker at Old Trafford. United are desperate to sign an elite central striker and believe Kane’s contractual situation will mean that a deal is possible.
However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not keen on overseeing the striker’s exit to a Premier League rival. An exit to a leading European club, such as Real Madrid, would overcome this obstacle and would mean Kane does not come up as an opponent for Tottenham – who have missed out on European qualification for next season.
Real Madrid ’s main striker Karim Benzema, who was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this week, is now aged 35 and they have agreed to sign young Brazilian talent Endrick from Palmeiras. However, the teenager cannot join the club for another two years and Kane would have been an ideal candidate to bridge the time gap between the two talents.

A report in Marca details how Kane remains a target for Madrid but there is little optimism that a deal can be done, due to the posturing of Spurs and the striker’s own personal wishes to stay in the Premier League – where he could break Alan Shearer’s all-time goals record.

It is claimed that Havertz is an option with growing momentum in the Spanish capital over the player - who was discussed at a transfer meeting this week. The German international agreed terms with the club back in 2020 before eventually opting to join Chelsea, due to a superior economic proposal.
Havertz has struggled for consistency over the years at the Blues but did hit the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City. He has three years remaining on his contract at Chelsea but his future is far from certain.
Mauricio Pochettino is the new boss at Stamford Bridge and will have a say on multiple players futures at the club. Chelsea have no shortage of attacking options with the impending arrival of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, meaning that they could be tempted to cash-in on Havertz.
