The Las Vegas Raiders could replace new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo after the quarterback underwent surgery for his foot and is yet to pass a physical, leading the team to a potential move for former NFL MVP candidate Carson Wentz.

The Raiders included a clause in Garoppolo's contract called Addendum G, which would allow them to cut him with no penalty if he is unable to pass a physical before the start of the season.

And according to SI.com, Wentz is one of the top free agents on the market that the Raiders could look to plug the gap left by Garoppolo. Wentz underperformed while with the Washington Commanders, throwing for just 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in eight games with the team, and the NFL franchise ultimately decided to move on with Sam Howell.

The 30-year-old was once an NFL MVP candidate while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, only to lose to the legendary Tom Brady in 2017. Wentz's mention among the league's best came in the season he won the Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Following four years in Philadelphia, Wentz moved on to the Indianapolis Colts - but his adventure in the Midwest lasted just one year before joining the Commanders in 2022.

And despite being unsigned, Wentz is conducting his own offseason workouts as he gears up for another potential season in the NFL, according to ESPN.

The outlet's reporting goes on to claim that Wentz is attracting interest from teams and the quarterback is open to both starter and backup roles ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Brady also isn't an option for the Raiders, with the 45-year-old set to become a minority stake holder in the NFL franchise. The seven-time Super Bowl champion has constantly been linked with a second unretirement, but he has again come out and dismissed such talk.

He told Sports Illustrated: "I am certain I am not playing again. I have tried to make that clear and I hate to profess that because I have already told people that lots of times."

"I'm looking forward to my broadcasting job at Fox next year," he added. "I am looking forward to the opportunity I have with the Raiders and we are in the process of that.

"Along with the other different things I'm a part of professionally and in my personal life.

"Just spending as much time as I can with my kids and seeing them grow up, and support the different things they have going on. That is a very important job and I take them all pretty seriously."
