More than 100 sex offenders committed further horrendous attacks after being released early from prison, figures reveal.

The criminals, including prolific paedophiles and rapists, were under the supervision of probation staff when they struck again.

One of the offenders is thought to be rapist Ashley Shuck, 24, who was jailed for eight years in 2012.

Shuck, of Worcester, was released in 2016 and within weeks raped and kidnapped a pensioner, 77, as well as sexually assaulting another woman.

David Spencer, research director at the Centre for Crime Prevention, said: “It is scandalous that we are putting so many convicted sex offenders back on the streets early to offend again.

"Every victim will feel betrayed by our criminal justice system, which continues to prioritise offenders and prison numbers over public safety.”

Ministry of Justice figures show in the past six years 112 sex attackers committed further sex crimes while on licence – the time after being let out of jail but before the end of their original sentence.

MoJ officials admitted all these further attacks were so serious there was a review of each case.

The MoJ said: “We have ended the automatic halfway release for serious crimes so sex offenders stay in jail for longer and we’ve toughened up the supervision they have when they are released.”
