Harry Maguire has hailed David de Gea for having an "amazing season" as Roy Keane called for Manchester United to "move him on quickly".

The Spaniard picked up the Golden Glove having kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper this season. The individual accolade came as United returned to the top four, albeit their haphazard defence has also struggled at times.

De Gea has produced in big moments, but equally he's made high profile errors, notably in the defeat at Brentford. He's also conceded six at Manchester City and seven at Liverpool. Nevertheless Maguire has praised the Spanish goalkeeper for keeping the Red Devils in games when their defence faltered.

The centre-half told MUTV: "He's [De Gea] been amazing this season. I think of the things I can say about him. He's made big saves in big moments and that's what David does. When we need him and he's called upon, he makes big saves.

"He's had an amazing season and It's one I'm sure he'll be really proud of. The Golden Glove is thoroughly deserved, obviously a big help from the lads for that as well, it's a joint effort, but he deserves it because he's kept us in games in crucial moments."

Keane though is clearly not of the same opinion, having long had an issue with De Gea and the praise handed to him, despite winning the club's Player of the Year four times in five years - more than anyone in United history. The 32-year-old's contract has been winding down and, whilst talks continue, Keane would rather see the club sell De Gea, who he doesn't believe can help them win silverware.

Keane told Sky Sports : "De Gea, they're patting him on the back there. I'd move him on quickly, he's not for me, he's not going to get Man United back winning trophies, absolutely not. This idea of everybody patting him on the head, it's just ridiculous. That's his job."

Talk of him staying on as a squad player has also been dismissed by the ex-United captain: "You wouldn't keep him as a number two. He's been number one at United for 10 years, he wouldn't stay on to be [backup]."

Erik ten Hag has reiterated his desire to keep De Gea but despite that links continue over a possible move in this summer transfer market with Brentford's David Raya and Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa both being talked about as possible targets for United.
