Arsenal are set to host Manchester City in a top-of-the-table clash which could go a long way to deciding which side wins the Premier League this season.

The Gunners currently hold a three-point advantage over City, as well as a game in hand, but that gap would disappear if they lose to Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday night. Arsenal have stumbled slightly of late, failing to win either of their past two Premier League matches.

Brentford became just the second time this season to take something home from the Emirates in a battling 1-1 draw on Saturday. That match followed a shock 1-0 defeat at struggling Everton the previous week, and a 1-0 loss against City in the FA Cup.

Mikel Arteta will therefore be hoping his team can get back to winning ways in their first league meeting of the season with their main rivals for the title. City will travel to north London with renewed confidence after beating Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday.

The win over Villa did come with a catch for Guardiola, who was forced to take off top-scorer Erling Haaland at half-time following a knock. The Norwegian striker is a doubt for Wednesday’s game after Guardiola explained the problem.

"He got a knock and was uncomfortable so at 3-0 up we didn’t want to take the risk,” he said on Sunday. “We will assess him and if he’s not ready we will play someone else. Hopefully he is ready."

Arsenal remain without Gabriel Jesus, Reiss Nelson and Mohamed Elneny, but Arteta might shake up his line-up after Brentford boss Thomas Frank said it was easier to prepare for the game on the weekend knowing the Gunners would stick with the same personnel.
