Girl, 4, accidentally hangs herself on bouncy castle as 'staff were on phones'
A four-year-old girl died from suffocation while playing in a bouncy castle as supervising staff members were allegedly distracted by their mobile phones.
The tragedy happened last weekend in an amusement park in the city of Mykolaiv, in war-torn southern Ukraine, last weekend.
The girl was found tangled up in the structure's ropes by bouncy castle assistants after her mother asked them to check on her because she had not heard her daughter's laughter for a while.
"At first Anna [the girl's mother] thought that Valeria had lost consciousness while playing in the heat and tried to wake her up," said Natalia Kuchynska, a close friend of the family.
The girl was found tangled up in the structure's ropesSomeone called an ambulance while another person attempted to save her life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions.

"There were no medical assistants providing first aid on site. Someone brought dentists from a clinic nearby", said Mrs Kuchynska said.
Eventually, when paramedics arrived on the scene, they were too late and pronounced her dead on the scene.
The child's mother is now replaying the day and regrets letting her stay to play longer.
They were about to go home when the girl asked her mother to play for a few more minutes.
The woman agreed and waited for her daughter in the parents' zone in an area which had an obstructed view, a report said.
Police later discovered that the three staff members who were supposed to look after the child were distracted by their phones.
The girl's funeral took place on Wednesday.
"The mother is devastated by the loss. The funeral day was very difficult. We spent it on pills," the family friend said.
The chief of police for Mykolaiv Oblast region, Sergiy Shaikhet, said: "It was preliminarily established that a four-year-old girl got entangled in the loops on the wall of a bouncy castle while playing on it. According to preliminary findings of experts, the child died as a result of suffocation."
The bouncy castle owner, 45, had been detained by the police and faces up to eight years in prison if found guilty.
