Slowthai has appeared in court accused of two counts of raping a woman.

The rapper, 28, appeared via video link before Oxford magistrates court charged with oral and vaginal penetration of a woman without her consent in 2021.

Prosecution lawyer Adam Yar Khan told the court that the charge was an indictable-only offence and needed to be heard at crown court.

Slowthai, real name Tyrone Kaymone Frampton, was bailed to appear before Oxford Crown Court on June 16.

In court, he only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address. He has yet to enter a formal plea.

Slowthai rose to popularity in 2019 for his gritty and rough instrumentals as well as his politically charged lyrics.

His debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, was released in 2019 and peaked at number 9 on the Official Charts on the week of release.

Brexit and Theresa May were a few of the many subjects and people covered in his songs.

Two years later his second album, Tyron, jumped straight to No 1 in the UK.

During the same year, he welcomed his first baby with his ex-fiancée and Russian singer Katya Kischuk.

Speaking about starting a family, the rapper previously said: "It’s something that I’ve always wanted.

"I want my kid to have a similar childhood to the one I had, because I didn’t see it as a bad thing."
