Fortnite was due to experience significant server downtime today ahead of update 24.40 going live, with Ranked Play set to be introduced.
UPDATE: Fortnite update 24.40, along with the introduction of Ranked, has been delayed.
Fortnite update 24.40, the next major update for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, was due to go live today at around 8am BST / 3am EDT / 12am PDT across all platforms. Fortnite update 24.40 will be introducing Ranked Play for the first time, with players able to play in the competitive mode in both Fortnite Battle Royale and Zero Build. Fortnite Ranked players will be able to show their skills and power through 18 ranks depending on their performance, from Bronze 1 to Unreal.
Fortnite update 24.40 – expected patch notes
Epic Games is yet to release any official patch notes for Fortnite update 24.40, but the Fortnite Trello board gives us a few clues as to which issues we could see fixed in the patch notes. And, there's the small detail that Epic Games has confirmed a few major bug fixes in a blog post.

Continuing to make improvements regarding some large rocks on the Battle Royale Island not providing as many materials as intended.

Fixing an issue preventing players from being healed with Slurp Juice after being DBNO.
Back Blings equipped with the Clone Trooper Outfit will no longer appear detached.
The Clone Trooper Outfit’s head movement will no longer be static.

Balance Changes for Ranked
Material caps will be decreased from 999 to 500.
Harvesting rates will be slightly increased.
Players will drop 50 of each material when they are eliminated.
