Mountain rescuers save exhausted dog from Scafell Pike and stretcher him down
Mountain rescuers saved a big, tired dog who refused to walk down England’s highest peak.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team raced to Scafell Pike after the pooch, thought to be an akita, was reported “injured and exhausted” after reaching the summit.
The team began to climb towards Esk Hause in the Lake District.
They then met the dog and its owners, who have not been named, at Grains Gill on the way down the 3,209ft peak and stretchered the dog the rest of the way.
A KMRT spokesman said of Saturday’s drama: “Despite being quite a large dog at 33kg (72lb) it was a joy to carry such a relatively lightweight casualty.
The unidentified dog is taken down the mountain by stretcher (KeswickMountainRescueTeam /SWNS)“The casualty remained cool, calm and positively regal throughout.”
He added: “The casualty and owners were given a lift to Keswick Team Base where other members of their party collected them.”
