David de Gea has officially clinched the Premier League golden glove for the second time despite huge doubt still hanging over his Manchester United future.

The Spaniard has been Erik ten Hag ’s first choice between the sticks during his debut season at Old Trafford. And despite what has been a rollercoaster campaign for the Red Devils, their defensive resilience has been noteworthy.

That has allowed De Gea to rack up 16 clean sheets throughout the season in the Premier League - his latest shutout coming in their 2-0 success against Wolves at Old Trafford. That means that the former Atletico Madrid stopper is guaranteed to claim the golden glove this term.

De Gea’s record could still be matched by Alisson Becker, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale. All of the trio are still three clean sheets behind with three matches of the season still to play.

However, none can overtake De Gea meaning that he is guaranteed a share of the award at the very least. It would represent the second time that he has claimed the Golden Glove during his spell at Old Trafford.

He kept 18 clean sheets during the 2017/18 campaign to claim the award after a fantastic campaign. However, the newly crowned Golden Glove winner still has questions to answer over his Man Utd future.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, a number of recent errors has seen his position at the club called even further into question.

A horrendous gaffe gifted Said Benrahma a winning goal in United’s recent defeat against West Ham. Speaking after that error, United boss Ten Hag said: “He has the most clean sheets in the league so we would not be here in this position without him.

“He fully has my belief. No concerns with him. It happens but as a team you have to deal with it, show character, be resilient and bounce back. We want him to stay and extend his contract.”

Amid doubt over De Gea’s Old Trafford future, the Red Devils have already been scouring Europe for a potential replacement. Porto star Diogo Costa has previously been linked, whilst Borussia Dortmund stopper Gregor Kobel is reportedly among options that could be signed.

De Gea in the meantime will be aiming to extend his record at the top of the clean sheets table as he ensures he is named as the outright winner. The Red Devils face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham over their final three matches of the campaign.
