Jordan Henderson has broken his silence over the constant criticism of Liverpool ’s midfield this season.

‌The Anfield skipper insisted it is not just one department to blame with the Reds struggling ALL over the pitch…and also firmly dismissed the notion that he’s finished at the top level. “I’ve got at least a good few years left in me, and ready for a new challenge again come next season,” the England star explained in a rare interview.

“I feel really good still, physically, to be honest. I feel in good shape - you look at the modern player and I think that age gap for retirement is always going higher.

“I watched the Champions League semi final in midweek and you’ve got Modric, Benzema and players like that playing at that high level at 37 and still looking physically really really good.”

‌Henderson was responding to claims that Liverpool will enter the transfer market strongly this summer, with targets such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Manuel Ugarte, Ryan Gravenberch, Mason Mount and Alexis Mac Alister all on the long list of targets, with two likely signings.

In an interview with Sky Sports, he argued that no one within the club is blaming all Liverpool’s woes this season on the midfield, and explained: “I don't buy into this stuff that gets said on the outside, you can see a lot more from the inside so you don't pay too much attention.

‌"If you look back at the season you wouldn't say there's been one area, I think we've struggled all over the pitch and as a team so that's the most important thing to get back to.”

‌And on news signings he added: “Of course, you're going to need to sign new players to freshen the squad up, to bring new players, to improve the team. If it is just centred around one position or one part of the field, I don't agree with that. We've got to always look to improve in all parts of the team and all areas of the game.”

‌Liverpool have revived in recent weeks, with Henderson and the much criticised Fabinho playing a big part in a six game winning streak, which has given them an outside chance of a top four place. But the captain still thinks it’s unlikely: “I think it will still be tough - a lot of things need to happen for us to do that - but it’s football, you never know.”
