Meghan Markle made a kind gesture to Prince Harry's ghostwriter after he revealed he was missing his family.

Author J. R. Moehringer worked closely with Harry to help ghostwrite his "Spare" memoir and would spend hours over Zoom due to Covid restrictions.

Harry was having to spill his most intimate stories and revelations to the author - knowing the repercussions from the book would likely upset the royals.

However, once the Covid regulations were lifted, Mr Moehringer was able to strike up a closer working relationship with Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle.

He even moved into their guesthouse in Montecito, US, so the pair could concentrate on finishing the book.

However, this meant the author was sacrificing time away from his family as he would spend long hours with Harry in order to meet his tight deadlines.

Mr Moehringer visited their home once with his wife and once with their children but also stayed at the guesthouse twice by himself.

"As the pandemic waned, I was finally able to travel to Montecito - I went once with my wife and children," he said in the New Yorker:

"(Harry won the heart of my daughter, Gracie, with his vast “Moana” scholarship; his favourite scene, he told her, is when Heihei, the silly chicken, finds himself lost at sea.) I also went twice by myself."

The ghost-writer revealed when he was staying alone at the guesthouse he was often visited by Meghan and their son Archie during their afternoon walks.

The Duchess of Sussex knew the author was badly missing his family and tried to make him feel better by making sure he had everything he needed for his stay.

The 41-year-old could sense the author was struggling from being away from his children for such a long period of time and wanted to show her gratitude towards him.

The author wrote: "Harry put me up in his guesthouse, where Meghan and Archie would visit me on their afternoon walks.

"Meghan, knowing I was missing my family, was forever bringing trays of food and sweets."
