Kate Garraway appeared on Lorraine Kelly's Coronation special on Friday as the Good Morning Britain presenter opened up on her own experiences with King Charles.

The Good Morning Britain host's husband Derek Draper was hospitalised after contracting Covid-19 and still requires around-the-clock care after being subsequently discharged as he battles the after effects of the virus.

Speaking to Lorraine, Kate revealed Charles stepped in to offer help when he learnt about her husband's condition.

The King wrote Derek a letter while he was in hospital, which the Good Morning Britain presenter was able to read out to her husband later on in his recovery.

She said: "What he does, and I think this is what he'll be thinking about tonight and tomorrow is, he gets why it's special for people to get a letter [from him], he gets why his role makes it special.

"And, then on a personal level he also said look, 'I. have a personal physician that's been very helpful with me and would you like to make use of them?' His doctor also works in a hospital in London so I did speak to him and it was very kind of him.

"At that point I was scrabbling around for anything so why not take the friend of the King, the then-Prince of Wales at the time."

She added: "I think he's a very kind, careful man and knows what it means for people to get [a letter from him]."

During her appearance at a Prince's Trust event in 2021, Kate thanked Charles for his support.

When she met the royal, she said: "And you might not remember but you were very kind to me because my husband got very sick with Covid after the last Prince's Trust awards. You wrote to me and gave me help, so thank you very much… and he did improve."

In her memoir, the Power Of Hope, she recalled: "One day I received a letter from a member of the Royal Family, offering the services of a Royal physician. How lovely, I thought, although it seemed utterly surreal."
