A biker who sped past a speed camera several times giving the finger every time was eventually caught in the act by waiting police.

The motorbike rider broke the 30mph speed limit six times and made the rude gesture on each occasion as he did so.

Fed up with the man’s riding, officers waited by the camera in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in an unmarked car to catch him in the act.

The bike arrived within 15 minutes on April 26 and he was found to be unlicensed and uninsured.

He was reported for both offences and will also be summonsed to court for speeding.

Chief Inspector Craig West, head of roads policing at Kent Police, said today: "Speed limits and cameras are in place to protect the public and should not be treated as a game.

"Motorists who speed risk receiving a fine and points on their licence, and in certain cases being brought before the courts.

"More importantly they risk causing a collision that could result in a death or serious injury.

"Please remember to drive responsibly at all times to protect yourself and other road-users."

Earlier this year a faulty speed camera wrongly flashed hundreds of cars, prompting a furious response from drivers on a busy road in Greater Manchester.

The speed camera on East Lancs Road, near Boothstown, flashed at as they passed by, even while they remained at slow speeds or were at a standstill.

The problem with the camera was later resolved, but some motorists were concerned they could receive a speeding ticket.

One person wrote on the Absolutely Atherton group: "Got me about 20 times last night stopped at lights... be fuming if I get a ticket."

Transport for Greater Manchester said the camera had been fixed on Tuesday and that drivers who were incorrectly flashed will not be prosecuted, the reported.

The minimum penalty for a speeding offence is a £100 fine and three points can be added to a licence, unless the driver is given the option to attend a speed awareness course.

Safer Roads Greater Manchester maintains the safety cameras on behalf of local authorities.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: "Safety camera faults happen occasionally can lead to the camera flashing in an uncontrolled manner as shown in this video.”
