It's National Gardening Week in the UK, with gardeners up and down the country looking for ways to improve their outside space.

One of the major bugbears of many gardeners is weeds. They don't only look unsightly, but they also steal water and nutrients away from the plants that need them.

There are many ways to kill garden weeds – but unfortunately many of them involve the use of chemicals, which can be harmful to both the environment or any animals that use the green space.

Luckily, fans of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, have shared a natural way to get rid of garden weeks – and it's really simple and cheap.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, one woman looking for advice asked: "What can I use to kill the weeds in between my paving slabs please?"

Many savvy gardeners flooded the comment section to share their top tips, but a few agreed on the same method that "works a treat" – white vinegar.

One person shared: "Use white vinegar mixed with water. Be careful though, it kills any plant it touches so watch it if you have lawn nearby."

Another added: "I agree, white vinegar works a treat on paving weeds."

A third commented: "The absolute best way to kill patio weeds down to the root is white vinegar, knocks them out instantly."

White vinegar, which can be picked up in a variety of retailers from as little as £1, is considered a strong weed killer due to its high acetic acid content.

Speaking to The Mirror, Jack Sutcliffe, Co-founder of Power Sheds, shared another concoction that could work. He said: "Non-chemical methods include pulling up weeds by hand or making your own weed killer with a mixture of white vinegar, salt, and washing up liquid.

"Mix equal parts in a spray bottle and spray directly onto the weeds and moss.

"Another quick and easy method is to pour boiling water to help kill small, young, or weak weeds."
