An outraged dad has slammed his daughter's school after she received an 'excessive' punishment for what others dubbed a 'cruel' prank.

The teenager, 17, was suspended from school for cutting the wig of a cancer survivor in her class.

She did not have permission, though, and instead cut 'a good sized portion' of her classmate's wig 'to make a prank video.'

In response, the senior student was sent to the headteacher's office, where her dad was called, and she was served '10 days in school suspension.'

However, the parent blasted the school's response as it will see his daughter miss out on several end-of-year events, including the chance to 'walk the stage at graduation'.

"I personally think this was excessive. I could see maybe 5 days of in-school suspension but I don't think it's fair to make her miss out on all of the senior activities and graduation over a little prank," he complained in a post to Reddit.

The dad also claimed the prank's victim is related to the school's head and speculated their relationship 'had something to do' with the 'severity' of his daughter's punishment.

But commenters were quick to slam the parent as they thought the punishment was justified.

One responder said: "I wonder if he even offered to pay for the damages. I know people who had or have cancer, and those quality wigs are super expensive."

Another revealed they spent hundreds on wigs after a cheaper variety made them ''break out'.

"It makes me sick what they did and how he is reacting to it," the commenter added.

Someone else agreed: "It's so cruel. The poor girl survived something horrible and the wig probably helps her feel a little more like things are going back to normal. Or at least like she doesn't have to stand out so much, which is extra important to teenagers.

"At 17 you should definitely be old enough to understand the emotional value of a cancer survivor's wig, even if you have no idea how expensive good wigs are. It's essentially the same as cutting her actual hair, but worse.

"This was intentional bullying with the purpose of hurting and humiliating that girl."
