Asda customers who are part of the Blue Light Card Scheme will be able to get the 10% discount by scanning their Asda Rewards App from today.

Blue Light Cards are given to NHS and emergency service staff and members and from today members will receive 10% of the amount of their shopping back into their Asda Rewards Cashpot simply by scanning their Asda Rewards app at the checkout.

Before today, Blue Light card members needed to show their card as well as their ID to get the discount when they shopped in-store.

There will be a section on the Asda Rewards app where shoppers can enter their Blue Light Card details which will link the two accounts together.

Sadly, members will still only be able to claim the discount in store and not when they shop online.

Blue Light Card holders who scan their Asda Rewards app in-store for the first time between May 4 and May 31, will also receive a £2.50 bonus in their Cashpots, deposited in June.

From May 4 until May 15, members will also be given a choice to claim either 10% off their shop or 10% cashback instead.

After this date, the scheme will revert back to offering a 10% discount in store only.

Mark Baxter, senior director for loyalty at Asda, said: “The Blue Light community do a fantastic job at keeping us all safe, healthy, and supported, so we’re happy to be able to offer them exclusive offers through our popular Asda Rewards app.

“As well as benefiting from everyday low prices, Asda Rewards users earn pounds through the app, and by building their Cashpot, are rewarded for simply shopping with Asda.”

The Blue Light discount, which was first introduced in 2021, was initially due to come to an end at the end of December last year but Asda has extended the scheme to acknowledge the work NHS and emergency workers do.

The scheme helped members save £128million when shopping at the supermarket since last May.

Already established Iceland customers are able to get a smaller discount of £2 off but you will have to spend £60.
