A former Miss Rwanda opened up about how she had almost been lured into taking part in a fake Netflix deal, after being contacted by a convicted murderer.

Jolly Mutesi told of the fake scheme, dreamt up by Thabo Bester, who is also known as the ‘Facebook rapist’, alongside his girlfriend, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, who was enlisted to coax the beauty queen into coming to Cape Town, South Africa.

Mutesi, who won the Miss Rwanda title in 2015, said that Bester had invited her to take part in a reality show that would be hosted by Kylie Jenner and Drake, promising ZAR 54 million (GBP 2.4 million) annual earnings for three years. The couple reached out to Mutesi via their company name, Arum Holdings.

She said that she was initially excited about the deal, but soon had a feeling that it could be too good to be true, questioning why she had been chosen to present the show alongside two globally recognised stars.

The couple replied that they wanted an East African candidate who met certain criteria, which she fit.

However, Mutesi rejected the deal. She took to Twitter about the experience, writing: "When I read Kylie Jenner and Drake, I instantly knew it was a scam, chile... thank God you didn't go! Also, this is incredible advice to people that 'not everything with glitter is gold'! Top-tier advice! Too many scammers out here."

Bester made headlines across the world after he was found to have lured aspiring models through Facebook with the promise of work.

He then raped and robbed them at knifepoint, going on to murder at least one of his victims.

Bester and Magudumana were arrested in Tanzania and brought back to South Africa, where they are now in custody.

Bester had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 for rape, robbery, and murder, and was sent to Mangaung Prison in Bloemfontein.

However, he was presumed dead following a fire at the facility in May last year, before reports uncovered that he was alive and on the run, after a DNA sample of the body in his cell didn’t match with his.
