Fernando Alonso has opened up on whether he is dating pop singer Taylor Swift after speculation surrounding a potential relationship between the pair.

Alonso, 41, split from his girlfriend Andrea Schlager last month, while Swift and long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn went their separate ways around the same time.

Rumours have since emerged that Alonso and Swift are dating, but the former F1 world champion has refused to comment about his private life - and preferred to speak about driving instead.

In a video on TikTok, Alonso was seen scrolling through his phone while playing Swift's song 'karma', before winking in the camera. Alonso was asked about his love life upon arrival at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

"I usually keep my personal and professional life apart. I prefer not to comment on it," he told Marca.

Alonso previously dated Miss Switzerland runner-up Xenia Tchoumitcheva, model Linda Morselli and journalist Lara Alvarez, before he started his relationship with Schlager. Meanwhile, Swift has dated Harry Styles, Calvin Harris and Joe Jonas amongst others in her life.

As for Alonso's F1 career, he hopes to secure another podium finish in Style this weekend to continue his fairytale start to the 2023 season. The Spaniard is third in the current standings on 45 points.

He said: "It's going extremely well, surprisingly well, to be honest. We thought we would have a good car, but honestly not good enough to challenge Mercedes or Ferrari.

"Our car is above the performance we expected and Mercedes and Ferrari are below it in the first few races, but they are very strong teams and they will get better and better as we saw last year in the case of Mercedes.

"These are happy days for us, but we cannot take it for granted that it will be like this all year. You have to push in all the races, those on the circuits and those at the factory, where you also run. In Baku we bring a new, smaller rear wing, which is not an evolution per se, but an adaptation to the circuit and we will see if that helps us."

Alonso is in his 23rd season as a professional driver since his debut campaign in 2001 - but he doesn't have any plans of stopping just yet. He added: "I don't know at this time. I haven't thought about that possibility yet. At the moment I have these two years in which I have to see things, develop things with the team, but it is true that we are in a better position than we thought...

"We believed that we would be fighting for podiums in 2024 and we have done it three times this year. Things seem to be going better than we expected and maybe that means being tempted to extend the contract in the future, but there is also the temptation to finish and do it with a smile on your face.

"I do not know, that's the truth. It is true that in 2026 there is another regulation change with the new engines..."
